Dr. Linda Vermooten has been awarded Member status in the American Psychotherapy Association® and recognition as a Board Certified Professional Counselor. Member status in the association is reserved for individuals who are devoted to the field of psychotherapy and committed to continuing their education.
Dr. Vermooten leads the Grace University counseling department and oversees the new Grace University Counseling Center located in the former St. Joseph’s Hospital building at 825 Dorcas St., Omaha.
“We have been provided with a state-of-the-art professional counseling center,” Dr. Vermooten said. “We practice integrated counseling and offer individual, couple, family and group therapy. We want to be a resource to the local churches and community to help care for their people in a Christian manner.”
The Grace University Counseling Center provides low-cost counseling to the community. As part of their student practicum, graduate-level counseling students work under the direct supervision of licensed faculty to serve clients and provide excellent counseling services. Grace University faculty who are licensed counselors and licensed private counselors also serve clients through a tiered fee structure.
“I came to Grace because of the excellence of the students that I had worked with as a counselor,” Dr. Vermooten continues. “I believe this is a divine appointment to equip the next generation of counselors from a godly perspective – something that is lacking in the counseling world. I’m here to help our students integrate biblical principals and model their counseling on the wonderful counselor, Jesus Christ.”
Dr. Vermooten has 15 years of experience as a counselor, with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Forest Institute for Professional Psychology in Springfield, Mo. She is a trained nurse (RN) and midwife from B.G. Alexander Nursing School in Hilbrow, South Africa. Dr. Vermooten earned her bachelor’s degree in Bible with a minor in counseling and psychology from Central Bible School in Springfield, Mo., and holds master’s degrees in counseling and divinity from the Assemblies of God Seminary in Springfield, Mo.
