Dr. Michael Schmidt joined the faculty of Grace University as an associate professor and director of Intercultural Studies. He earned the degree of Doctor of Missiology in 2006 from Biola Universities School of Intercultural Studies.
Dr. Schmidt comes to Grace after an 18 year career with SIM (Serving in Mission) International where he worked in Niger, West Africa. He was involved in a variety of church based ministries that included literacy, health work, agriculture and children’s ministries. He served as the assistant field director with direct responsibilities for SIM’s church planting ministries, medical facilities and food security programs in Niger.
Dr. Schmidt also holds a BA (summa cum laude) from Grace University and a ThM (cum laude) from Dallas Theological Seminary. He is a member of the Evangelical Missiological Society.
Teaching and Related Service
Dr. Schmidt teaches classes in cross-cultural communications, leadership and theology of God’s mission.
Research and Creative Activity
Dr. Schmidt’s research focuses on change factors in the social organization of West African societies.
Dr. Schmidt lives in South Omaha in a largely Hispanic community with his wife, LaRae and two children. They are working at adding Spanish to the other languages they learned while in Africa. Dr. Schmidt enjoys biking and being drug by his dogs on long walks.
