Letter from Dr. Holmes

Where should you go to college? That is an important question, but the real question you should ask is not just what college to go to, but what college do you want to shape you? In other words, who do you want to become?

Almost any college can give you a degree. But the most important question is who will you become along the way? What habits, what passions what disciplines will you incorporate into your life during college? What relationships will you make? Who do you want to be in 4 or 5 years? What about in 30 years? Because we are the sum total of thousands of small decisions (and yes, some big ones here and there), there’s no better way to start answering the question of who you want to become than by studying at Grace University.

Why is that? Because Grace University exists to develop servant leaders for the home, the church and the world through excellence in biblically-integrated education and through life change in a personal, discipling environment, all for the glory of God. Let me break that down for you:

  • We produce servant leaders. Jesus served the disciples. While the world teaches us to serve ourselves, we are passionate about following Jesus’ example of serving others. Trust me, employers notice our students who understand servant leadership!
  • We train our students through excellence in biblically-integrated education. That means that we integrate God’s word into all disciplines. I’ve been a faculty member here for more than 20 years. I deeply respect each one of our faculty and I can highly recommend them as strong academic and character examples for you to emulate. Jesus said “everyone when fully trained will be like his teacher” (Luke 6:40). Think about who you want to become as you choose your professors and university. As you develop your worldview at Grace University, you will learn how to think carefully and critically about all subjects under the tutelage of fellow brothers and sisters in Christ who have your best interest at heart.
  • We also aim to disciple our students inside and outside of the classroom. Becoming like Jesus is not always a clean and simple (or painless) process, but I am so proud of the environment that we have on campus—it is truly grace based! We have an awesome staff of mature, trained leaders in our Student Development Office who excel at loving others. Our faculty and staff take a personal interest in the lives of students and are involved every step of the way.

So whether you are a recent high school graduate, or you are considering our graduate school or Adult Degree Completion program, think about who you want to become and prayerfully consider Grace University. God has His hand on this place. Come by for a visit and drop into to a class and chapel to see what I’m talking about.
