Susan Alford joined the Teacher Education department at its inception as the Director in 1997. She is currently a doctoral candidate earning a Doctorate of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction of English As a Second Language from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Susan Alford has a Bachelor of science in Biology from Wheaton College and a Master of science in Special Education. She taught for three years as a high school special education teacher in the Gretna Public Schools and was an adjunct for Grace University for 12 years.
Ms. Alford teaches classes in English as a Second Language, Science Methods, and History and Philosophy of Education.
Ms. Alford's research focuses on Preservice teacher preparation in the area of English Language Learners. She has been involved with the Center for Research, Education, Diversity, and Excellence (CREDE) with on-going discussions on how to best prepare teachers for working with ESL students.
Ms. Alford's favorite past time is taking students to China on a study abroad program in the summers. She loves to travel and cook and would love to combine the two into a cooking show.
