Mr. James began his career by teaching in two public schools in Nebraska, the first in Yutan (six years) and the second in Aurora (eight years). He joined the faculty at Grace University in 1994.
Mr James serves as Director of Bands, which includes conducting the Community Concert Band and Pep Band. He oversees many sub-groups within the Band, including the Percussion Ensemble, Clarinet Ensemble, Saxophone Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, and Flute Trio.
He also spends a lot of time in the classroom, teaching courses in music theory, conducting, arrnaging, band methods, brass methods, and woodwind methods.
Mr. James has thirty works published and a lot more that have been used only by his bands and ensembles. He plays trombone, often in local brass groups. He has performed the National Anthem as a soloist and/or in brass groups for the College World Series, the Kansas City Royals, the Chicago Bulls and at many other sporting events.
Mr. James lives in Omaha with his wife, Pat, and four children, Christa, Jana, Micah, and Josiah. He leads music at Grace Baptist Church, and has served as Deacon there for ten years.
