Professional Profile

An avid reader of everything from comic books to the Great Books, Gary earned his BA in English from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1993. He first served Grace University as an English adjunct in the 2005-06 academic year. After a season in full-time ministry, he returned to Grace as a regular adjunct instructor in 2009. Gary recently earned his MA in Humanities through American Public University and in Fall 2012 joined the full-time faculty of Grace University as an Assistant Professor of the Humanities. Gary also serves as chair of the school's fledgling Humanities Department.

Teaching and Related Service

Gary teaches courses in composition, creative writing, literature, and world history.

Research and Creative Activity

Gary is researching and writing his first book, an ambitious work that seeks to revive interest in three underappreciated authors of the mid-twentieth century: Harry Golden, Al Morgan, and Max Shulman. He is also preparing articles on subjects as wide ranging as the forgotten novels of Christian author Charles Sheldon to the forthcoming fiftieth anniversary of the JFK assassination.

Personal Sketch

Gary literally came “out of Babylon,” relocating in 1994 from West Babylon, New York to Omaha, Nebraska. For twelve years he worked as a proofreader and proposal writer for Kutak Rock LLP, Nebraska’s largest law firm. In 2006 Gary set out to pursue ministry opportunities, serving first as a chaplain to homeless men at the Open Door Mission and later pastoring Messiah's Reformed Bible Church.

Gary and his wife Cindy were wed in 1996. The Lord has blessed them with three children: Kevin, Emma, and Asher. Gary is at home in any church that proclaims Christ, though most Sundays will find him attending Glad Tidings in the morning and Marshall Drive Baptist Church in the evening.
