Director of the Intercultural Studies Program

Grace University is seeking an energetic qualified individual to lead and grow the Intercultural Studies (IS) program.
At Grace University, the Intercultural Studies degree prepares students to minister and communicate the gospel in cultural settings different from their own. This is accomplished by developing skills in the following areas;

  • Interpersonal skills. This includes achieving a high level of self awareness and knowledge of one’s role in, and impact on, team dynamics in different societies.
  • Cross cultural skills. This includes becoming aware of one’s own culture and the ability to analyze and formulate ministry plans for other cultures based on missiological, anthropological and theological principles.
  •  Biblical interpretation skills.  This includes gaining an understanding of the biblical text and training in applying the timeless truth of scripture to diverse cultural contexts.

Upon completion of the program students will be able to:

  • Manifest an ability to handle successfully the unique interpersonal challenges of intercultural ministry.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the significance of the history and progress of world missions,
  • Demonstrate the ability to evaluate critically the basic issues and current trends in missions,
  • Display a clear and workable understanding of the sending role of the church in world evangelization,
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of divergent cultures and non-Christian religions,
  • Evidence the ability to analyze and then formulate strategies for effectively reaching the multi-faceted cultures of the  world,
  • Demonstrate ministerial skills in a variety of cross-cultural contexts,
  • Serve effectively in cross-cultural situations through meeting general requirements of mission’s organizations.
  •  Demonstrate a Christ-like character.

The Director of the Intercultural Studies program will:

  • Administer the I.S. program
  • Teach in the I. S. program
  • Secure and manage adjunct faculty who teach in the I. S. program
  • Work with the registrar to schedule classes each semester
  • Advise students in the program
  • Manage the program budget
  • Create, and/or connect with, local cross cultural opportunities
  • Serve on various committees

Required Qualifications:

  • a Master's degree in Missions, or related field.
  • a minimum of five years of experience in a cross cultural ministry setting .
  • the ability to lead collaboratively with vision and practical perspective.
  • the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • the ability to establish effective working relationships with faculty, administrators, college staff, and the general community.
  • unquestioned integrity and in agreement with Grace University’s doctrinal position and mission.

Desired Qualifications:

  • a Doctorate in Missions or related field.
  • a minimum of 10 years of experience in a cross cultural ministry setting.
  • administrative and instructional experience in a Christian College setting.

The Director will answer to Academic Dean.
